Inspired by Marie Jones’ award-winning comedy “Stones in his Pockets” Rosemary Doyle (EEN) has written a play that highlights the friction between the Hollywood dream, and the Hollywood reality for deaf actors. Offering both riotous comedy and deeply moving moments, a local young man's overdose on set, is handled with a poignant contrast by those that knew him to the superficial concerns of the film crew and marketing machine.
Hands In Her Pockets is an actor driven narrative where the performances will be front and centre. We are highlighting ASL in a realistic way, but we will make sure that those who don’t know sign language will be able to understand at the deft hands of this talented cast. Meet Fiona Conlon, played by Hayley Hudson, who wants to be the next Quintin Tarantino. Elizabeth Morris as Janey Quinn third generation background performer who is in it for the money. And introducing Lauren Lafayette Brooks playing a host of others on set, from star to homeless trespasser.
Join us as we navigate this hilarious entry into the world of ASL, the Film Industry, and our silencing and exploitation of those who are different than us. We are inspired to follow our dreams just as they try and navigate a world that doesn’t try to understand.
