Workshop to learn to how use critical response with your audiences
Thursday, June 13, 9:30-1:30pm at the Grand Theatre

For: Arts administrators, artists, programmers, marketers

Discplines: Visual arts, performing arts

CCI Ontario and the Grand Theatre are pleased to present a workshop to teach you how to communicate with your audience through critical response. Critical response is an effective way to generate audience feedback on a painting, dance piece, musical performance or any type of artistic product through dialogue. Critical response can help you to connect with your audience and to help them draw meaningful insight from the work they experience.

Lead by Steve Busa, Artistic Director of Red Eye Theater Collaboration in Minneapolis, MN and Eric Olmscheid, Director of Programming and Education of Des Moines Performing Arts in Des Moines, Iowa, this four-hour workshop will teach you the steps of the critical response process:

- Observing closely what you notice without judgement
- Reminding of your prior experiences
- Surfacing feeling that you encountered with the experience
- Asking questions that arise from the work
- Speculating the creator's intent of the work based on your interpretation (what it's about)

Admission is free, but pre-registration is required as space is limited (RSVP below). For more information please contact Jenny Pedler at jpedler@cityofkingston.ca
