From October 2020 – May 2021, the Kingston Grand Theatre launched a Virtual Grand OnStage program featuring unique, online performing arts events. There are no virtual events being offered at this time, but the frequently asked questions outlined below explains how to get the most out of your virtual event experience when they resume.
1. How can I see what virtual events are available?
You can visit https://www.kingstongrand.ca/events and select ‘virtual’ as the venue to see what virtual events are scheduled.
2. What do I need to watch these virtual events?
These virtual events require a stable internet connection and are best viewed on a desktop or laptop computer, but can also be viewed on tablets or mobile phones, potentially with reduced capability to interact in certain circumstances. These virtual events can also be viewed on a television depending upon your familiarity with the technology and your ability to transfer the signal.
3. What is a Grand OnStage live stream event?
A Grand OnStage live stream event is an online presentation that offers a combination of pre-recorded and live elements, including performances, artist talks, question and answer periods and other engagement opportunities. The majority of the content being featured is exclusive to Kingston and the Grand OnStage program and may be shorter than an in-person performance.
4. What do I need to have to be able to watch the virtual Grand OnStage events?
To watch the shows, all you need is access to your email to launch the stream and a stable internet connection. The shows can be viewed on your computer, tablet, mobile phone or television if you are familiar with how to transfer the signal.
5. What is the length of a Grand OnStage live stream event?
Each presentation will vary in length depending on the individual performance. However, we anticipate programs to run approximately 30 - 40 minutes in length at minimum.
6. How to I register to watch a virtual event?
Once you click on the event landing page and wish to register, you can click on the red ‘Register Now’ button in the top right-hand corner. This will take you to our ticketing page and you can follow the instructions.
7. Why do I have to sign in to register to watch a virtual event?
The events being programmed feature content exclusive to Kingston and the Grand OnStage program, and are not available on more platforms like YouTube or Facebook. Registration is required and, once you sign in, that means we are able to send you the non-public link to the virtual event. This also allows us to answer any questions you may have prior the event and to collect feedback to share with the artist.
8. How will I know I’m registered?
As soon as you complete your registration, you will be sent an email with a copy of your ticket. Please check your spam and junk folders as many email programs filter the message to those folders.
9. Do I have to register for everyone in my household if we are watching the event on one device?
No, if you are planning to watch the performance with family and friends from your house, you only need to register once if everyone will be watching using the same device. If other people in your household choose to use a different device, then they will need to register separately.
10. How do I watch the virtual event at the scheduled time?
As soon as you complete your registration, you will be sent an email with a copy of your ticket. Always check your spam and junk folders in case any e-mails get filtered there. A few minutes before the start of the event, select the “Stream Now” button from your ticket. You will then go to the streaming page and an access code will be automatically generated and sent to your email to be entered (again, please check your spam and junk folders in case this e-mail gets filtered). Put in your access code and start enjoying the show. The virtual space will be open 30 minutes prior to the start time.
11. How can I participate in the event?
Many of our events will have a question-and-answer portion. You can type your questions using the online chat function and our emcee will do our best to answer them. This feature works best when viewing the event on a desktop or laptop computer and requires access to a keyboard.
12. What if I am having technical issues logging onto the event?
A member of our technical team will be able to answer any questions you have through the chat function. Please ensure before you log on that you have a stable internet connection, that your speakers and/or headphones are turned on, and the volume has been adjusted.
13. How can I find out about upcoming virtual events?
All newly announced virtual events will be posted on KingstonGrand.ca. We encourage you to sign up for our newsletter at https://www.kingstongrand.ca/sign-up-to-our-newsletters to ensure you are the first to know of newly added events.
14. What if I still have questions?
For questions about registration in advance of the event, please contact Kingston Grand Theatre Box Office. The Box Office is open Monday - Friday by phone at 613-530-2050 or by email email@example.com.
