Eleven Gorgeous Brazilian Men To Dazzle Audiences With Feats Of Athleticism And Grace

When an athletic dance event is named “Running” (Correria) and “Water” (Agwa), audiences can be assured they will experience a high energy presentation like no other.  In both pieces, the 11 male dancers mix hip-hop, capoeira, samba, electronic music and bossa nova to deliver a complex, inventive dance full of amazing acrobatics and explosive energy.

Correria plunges us into a frantic, hectic race just like the one that governs our daily lives – bodies, movement and a show that takes your breath away!  Agwa is all about water, at once a vital component of our bodies, a precious natural resource to be economised and preserved, and a symbol of renewal.  Audiences will be talking about the amazing part of the show that uses over 200 drinking cups.  Beer pong was never like this.

The inspiration for both Correria and Agwa was an encounter between choreographer Mourad Merzouki and 11 young dancers from Rio de Janeiro at the Lyon Dance Biennial in 2006.  The Brazilian dancers had their roots in the favelas, and their individual stories struck a profound chord with the Compagnie Käfig choreographer.

Audience members are invited to remain in the auditorium immediately following the performance for a Talkback with the performers.
Tickets for Compagnie Käfig are $47 and $42, plus HST and box office fees and can be purchased online at or in person.  The Grand Theatre Box Office is open Monday through Saturday, noon - 6pm and can be reached by calling (613) 530-2050 or grandtheatre2 [at]
