8. Finding Freedom: The Myth of the Binary
Joshua Ferguson with Lee Airton
Readings and Conversation, Festival Field Trip event
11:00 - 12:00 pm.
In 2018, filmmaker Joshua M. Ferguson made history as the first person to receive a birth certificate declaring their gender as non-binary. Their memoir, Me, Myself, They, explores how they transformed early traumas into creativity, strength, and empathy. Joshua also celebrates the decades-long work of activists for transgender visibility and safety, and invites us to consider our own fluidity and potential for identity to change. Joined by gender studies researcher and advocate Lee Airton, this promises to be a poignant and important conversation.
