As the Performing Arts Manager for Cultural Services, I get the fortunate opportunity to attend many exceptional live performances, and in a few cases, I am able to bring those artists to Kingston to perform for our community.  “TRACES” by 7 Fingers (Les 7 doigts de la main) is one such performance and it will be appearing at the Grand Theatre on April 30th at 7:30pm.

TracesFounded in Montreal in 2002, 7 Fingers initial goal was to bring circus to a human scale. With “TRACES”, 7 Fingers worked to take their trademark human and multi-disciplinary approach one step further by fusing classic acrobatics with such street forms as skateboard, basketball and parcours.  Traces is a new circus experience, one with an urban flavour, as young artists explode onto the stage with a renewed dynamic energy.   Created in 2006, Traces has been presented almost 1600 times before 900,000 people in 25 countries and 200 cities around the world. The show has won multiple awards, been invited to America's Got Talent twice, was on TIME's top 10 list in 2011, performed at the Royal Variety Performance in London, and was featured at the Union Square Theater in NYC for a whole year.

That is where I saw the show.  It was January 2012 and I was headed to Union Square Theatre to see a performance of the runaway hit “TRACES”.  I had heard about the work of 7 Fingers and the company was the buzz among many theatre presenters.  Propelled by curiosity and a little National pride, I settled in for what turned out to be, an astonishing roller coaster ride of daring circus arts that highlighted both the individual as much as the ensemble.  Each performer in “TRACES” had mastered a multitude of specialties and the result was a heart stopping production that was fluid and seamless from beginning to end.

If there is one show, that I recommend for anybody to see, this is it.! “TRACES” has all of the elements needed to make the April 30th performance at the Grand, the show of the year!  It simply cannot be missed.

Enter the form below for your chance to win four tickets to see "TRACES". Contest ends Friday, April 25 at 11am.
