Big Dig update for Thursday, March 3

Update for Thursday, March 3:

  • Crews continue to work on main sewer and water line excavation on Princess Street between Bagot and Montreal Streets, and will be moving into the intersection of Princess and Montreal Streets shortly.
  • Crews will also be working on Montreal Street between Brock Street and Princess Street on Monday Mar. 7 to complete emergency repairs to the sewer service at 13 Montreal Street. Montreal Street will remain open to local traffic, for deliveries, and for access to the Upper Bruce parking lot. Work on this service will be completed by the end of the day Monday.
  • Crews continue to work on service excavations in the block of Princess between Sydenham and Clergy Streets. To date, crews have completed almost 75 per cent of service excavations for the project.
  • Preparation for sidewalk pouring on the south side of Princess Street between Montreal Street and the Grand Theatre has begun, with plans to pour concrete once temperatures consistently rise above -10 degrees.

The Princess Street Reconstuction
As part of the City of Kingston's Downtown Action Plan, the third phase of the Princess Street reconstruction is now underway. Businesses are open and accessible during construction, including the Grand Theatre. Portions of Montreal, Sydenham and Clergy streets will also be reconstructed as part of this project. Princess St. will be initially be closed from Bagot to Montreal.  Work will continue moving up the street toward Clergy. Princess Street is scheduled to reopen to vehicles on July 1.

Getting here
We recommend using the Chown Memorial Parking Garage or the Upper Robert Bruce Memorial Parking Lot to park your vehicle. Street parking is also available and is free after 5:30pm and on Sundays. Princess St. access
The Grand Theatre is accessible via Opera Lane Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm, and 2 hours prior to the start of a performance. Feel free to use the Whig walk that connects Opera Lane to Princess St. anytime. Our friends at Megalos will be open most evenings for access to Princess St. and Gap Kingston will be open Sundays from noon until 5pm to offer access.
