About THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
The Queen's Student Opera Company welcomes you to celebrate its 15th season with its 2011/2012 main stage production, The Light in the Piazza.
The Light in the Piazza is a musical with a book by Craig Lucas and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel. Based on a novella by Elizabeth Spencer, it is set in Florence and Rome in the summer of 1953. A young American tourist, Clara Johnson, meets and falls for young Italian Fabrizio Naccarelli. When Clara's mother Margaret learns of the affair, she opposes it for reasons that only gradually become clear to the audience.
The winner of six Tony awards, including Best Original Score, critic John Simon of NY Magazine wrote: "...anyone who cares about the rather uncertain future of this truly American genre should—must—see the show, think and worry about it, and reach his or her own conclusions..."

About The Mystery of Edwin Drood
Queen’s Musical Theatre is proud to present the solve-it-yourself murder mystery The Mystery of Edwin Drood as their Winter 2012 musical!
Originally debuting at the New York Shakespeare festival and eventually moving to Broadway, Drood was the winner of 5 Tony awards including Best Musical. Loosely based on Charles Dickens' famous unfinished novel, Drood takes audience participation to new heights by letting the audience vote for whomever they think murdered young Edwin Drood. Presented as a 'first night performance by The Music Hall Royale' featuring a troupe of hilarious Victorian actors, this affectionate recreation of a bygone theatrical age is certain to prove an enormous hit with everyone.

About Sylvia
A Comedy by A.R. Gurney; Directed by Will Britton
Greg, a middle aged man on the verge of a midlife crisis, gets a new lease on life when he adopts Sylvia, a stray lab-poodle cross. This new addition to the family becomes a bone of contention when his wife, Kate, takes an instant dislike to her husband’s furry companion. A.R. Gurney’s comedy is a hilarious and insightful examination marriage, love and the pitfalls of growing older.
Dramatic literature is stuffed with memorable love scenes, but none is as immediately delicious and dizzy as the one that begins the redeeming affair in A.R. Gurney’s comedy, Sylvia…” – NY Times “I can only call it one of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen…” – NY Daily News “Gurney’s mad comedy is the most endearing good time to trot down the pike in many a moon. Howlingly funny…” – BackStage
