About The Year of Magical Thinking
Adapted from the bestselling memoir by Joan Didion, this play chronicles Didion's unique and memorable exploration of her need to find life in the face of death. Her story is illumination, moving, and - surprisingly - comforting.
Performing this monumental one-woman journey is Theatre Kingston’s Artistic Director Kim Renders.
The Year of Magical Thinking is directed by writer/director Anne Hardcastle (Author of the stage adaptation of Helen Humphries award-winning novel, Wild Dogs) with Lighting Design by Tim Fort (Direction and Lighting Design for Goblin Market) and set artwork, Sherry’s Wild Iris, by Peterborough artist, Micky Renders.
Originally performed on Broadway by acting legend, Vanessa Redgrave, The Year of Magical Thinking has been performed in theatres around the world.
“an indelible portrait of loss and grief… Didion has a peerless ear for the music of words in motion.” - The New York Times
“Poignant, heartbreaking and wry. . . . In Joan Didion’s beautifully written play, the emotions are so genuine we can’t help but be deeply affected.”- Newsweek
“A play that is as intensely intimate as it is universal.” - Daily News
There are also performances scheduled as Pay-What-You-Can on Wed. Apr. 21 at 8pm, Sun. Apr. 25 at 2pm, Sun. May 2 at 2pm, and Sat. May 8 at 2pm. Tickets for these performances are only available in person at the Box Office 2 hours prior to the show, there are no advanced sales.

About Lorne Elliott: The Upside Of The Downturn
Humourist, storyteller, comedian and musician, Canadian born LORNE ELLIOTT has performed all across Canada, the U.S. and Australia.
Starting as a writer and folk musician, he went on writing comedic material and staged it as one-man shows. The result of such training is a well crafted show of comedy & music theatre: totally original, entertaining, up-lifting and always family friendly*.
His current concert performance is a one-man performance of humour, storytelling and music. The script is a work of thought-provoking contemporary satire: witty, clever and fast-paced. Lorne Elliott's stage persona, a contrast of crazed intellectual and extravagant jester is both outlandish and charming. The performance is a blend of comedic mayhem and superbly silly performance art.
His work caught the attention of CBC Radio who aired one of his concert performances on "Definitely Not The Opera": it was greeted with such enthusiasm all across the country that it was rebroadcast on "Sunday Showcase"and "Morningside".
"Madly Off in all Directions" was Lorne’s own CBC Radio Comedy Series, it was greeted with such enthusiastic audience response that the program went on for 11 Seasons, till fall 2006.
Lorne has been featured on numerous Theatre Arts festivals, he is also an award-winning playwright and his plays are regularly produced across Canada.
Of his one-man performance reviewers have said:
"Unrelentingly hilarious ", Ottawa Citizen.
"A genuine and talented nut-case", Halifax Daily News.
"Elliott's stage work was brilliant", Edmonton Journal.
"Swift, original, quick-witted ... thinks on his feet", Silver Friedman of the New York city Original Improvisation.
*Target audience: 9 and up.

About Kingston Senior Choristers
The Kingston Senior Choristers is a 95 voice choir, which specializes in four-part harmony and has performed in the greater Kingston area for about fifteen years, having adopted its current name in 2005.
The choir is directed by Lynda Stoness and is accompanied by Marilyn Wesson. Lynda is well-known in the Kingston area, having taught music for 35 years. Marilyn is a relative newcomer to the city, recently moving to Kingston after teaching piano for many years in Nova Scotia.
The choir’s repertoire is to say the least, eclectic, but specializes in music that is “easy listening”, with a wide array of numbers from Broadway to Folk to Spiritual. To quote Lynda, “we know our audience and what it likes to hear. Happily, that preference is exactly what we enjoy singing. It’s a winning combination”.
The choristers perform at least two main concerts each year, supplemented by regular mini-concerts, for example at seniors residences or as fundraisers for local charities. They were honoured to be invited to sing twice as part of the Seniors Jubilee at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto in 2007 and 2008.
On May 15, in the group’s first appearance at Kingston’s Grand Theatre, its Lights, Camera, Action, as the choir presents “CINEMAGIC”, highlighting excerpts from more than forty of everyone’s favourite movies. For this event, the choir will be accompanied by guest musicians, and will feature appearances by the Chris Alfano Trio. The audience will be taken down a musical memory lane of movie hits, and Oscar-winning tunes that are certain to have toes tapping, and fingers snapping.
