Kingston Symphony Association

The Kingston Symphony Association exists to produce and promote professional quality programmes of instrumental and choral music for the education, enjoyment and enrichment of audiences in the Greater Kingston area. The Kingston Symphony is dedicated to the support, development and showcasing of Canadian artists and composers.

Celebrating its 56th season in 2009-2010, the Kingston Symphony Association is the umbrella organization for five performing ensembles: Kingston Symphony, Kingston Choral Society, Kingston Youth Orchestra, Kingston Youth Strings, and Kingston Community Strings. Our ensembles are invaluable resources for young and old, amateur through professional, in our community. We are also fortunate to have a 200-member Volunteer Committee who work on our behalf to raise funds for the operation of our organization.

During the 2007-2008 season, the Kingston Symphony produced and released a new CD entitled 'A Symphonic Tapestry'. The recording features our Concertmaster Gisèle Dalbec and Principal Cello Wolf Tormann as soloists, the world premiere of a new work called 'Tapestries of Love' by Canadian composer Peter Paul Koprowski, and Beethoven's Symphony No.4. In 2004, the Kingston Symphony commissioned and premiered The Tents of Abraham, a work by Kingston composer Istvan Anhalt, which was recorded live during the performance and later released on a CD. In 2005, the composition won a Juno Award for Best Classical Composition of the year.
